Sources of Livelihood

Livelihood takes a vital role for people particularly in rural areas because of the availability o land and sea in their place. My hometown Bongaboong is said to be the Organic Capital of Oriental Mindoro and known for its magnificent sceneries, tourism contributes to the development of the place but besides that farming and fishing is the main source of the local income.

Bongabong has rich lands that are very useful especially in farming and almost all of the Mangyans have their jobs in rice fields. Farming is the most important livelihood and leading natural resources in Bongabong because of the availability of the land in their town. Farming gives a huge earning for the farmers especially for the families depending on this livelihood and giving them opportunity to sell sacks of rice to the market. Farmers harvest tons of rice from their large hectares of rice field that can supply rice for many families living in Bongabong.

Our government are helping farmers to maintain their production of rice. They provide equipments like tractors and machinery that can be helpful to lessen time consumption in harvesting unlike using carabaos. But there are some farmers having small hectares of rice field still using carabaos during harvesting time because it is cheaper than buying any type of machines. They also provide seminars and programs that teach every farmers on how they can maintain the good production of rice, they discuss techniques and solutions to any problems that farmers may encounter in farming. The government also provides projects for the farmers to help them improve their livelihood and giving the town enough agricultural budget to support the farmers in taking care of their rice fields.
Rice is the dominant product in Bongabong, having said to be the Agri-Farming Capital of the province; Bongabong creates good quality and delicious rice grains. They exporting tons of rice not only in Oriental Mindoro but also around the Philippines and some foreign countries so they maintain the process of having their rice as the best choice of rice you will eat.

Farming is the reliable source of livelihood for the citizens of Bongabong, it is also their income job and food source for their families. Farmers in Bongbong are very thankful for having riches land to plant rice.

Another sources of livelihood in Bongabong is fishing, Having coastal areas let people in the town go fishing to earn money, They catch different important commercial fishes like tuna, mackarel, snapper, anchovy, and round scad and they sell it to the market within their town or even around Oriental Mindoro. They do businesses out of fishing, aside from selling it to the market, they create fish ponds and raise different kinds of fishes.

Fishing are sometimes their sources of food especially when the area is far away from the market, they just ride their motor boats and catch fish as many as they can. Fishing is one of the important livelihood in Bongabong because of the availability of the sea to have plenty of fishes.
The government supports the fishery industry in Bongabong, they propose programs to help people on how they can maintain the progress of production of their products especially it is the second dominant product in their town. They give budget to the municipality of the town to provide equipment or other materials that are needed for the improvement of fishery industry.
Fishing is one of the most important livelihood that are available in Bongabong because a lot of people are depending on it especially for the families besides coastal areas.
